Dusk Dream

As the darkness drops earlier, each evening, and the temperatures drop, as well, thoughts turn to darker, colder things.  Horror movie thoughts invade.  Cold War nightmares threaten.

Stories of the criminally insane chase away the pleasant daydreams.  Knowing they're in positions of power doesn't help.  The words of Stephen King from his role as the doomed DJ in Hierophant's Black Ribbons come to mind, "Bad guys win, folks."

Ghosts of the long-ago crawl from their graves.  They come for a visit.  Fires kindle and mercifully keep the shadows at bay.

Some fires keep burning too long, though.  Some should've never been ignited.  Now, the warmth burns.

Maybe it's just that time of year.
