Rambling Randomness and Reminiscences #5150

Another week down. Halloween is next week. That means the holiday season is upon us, and 2020 is just around the corner.

Remember when the year 2000 seemed like a made up time from a science fiction movie? It was so far off into the future that thinking about it was almost silly. Now, it's 20 years ago.

Talking to my Dad last week, he began reminiscing about seeing horse drawn wagons on the highways when he was young. That reminded me of the stories my Grandparents would tell about when the first cars showed up on the road. My Grandmother used to tell a story of an old Ford model T that they'd have to get out and push if it didn't get up enough momentum before trying to climb a grade.

My Grandfather, born in 1890, remembered when even bicycles were a new technology. He called a bicycle a "wheel". "Let me watch you ride your wheel", he'd say, watching us ride around with the distant look of long-ago in his eyes.

That was nearly 40 years ago. He's been gone for decades. My last grandparent died 13 years ago, aged 96 years.

This is Friday. I should be thinking about how to spend it, not thinking about how much time has already been spent. What's with this melancholy mess?
