Sure Things

Nothing's a sure thing. That's no new information. Still, being reminded about that fact the hard way can be very unpleasant.

When you're counting on something that falls through, the setback can be huge. Sometimes, the result is almost a complete reset. Even worse, the timing can be too late to start over.

Some things require you to put all of your eggs in their basket. When that basket falls apart, or doesn't deliver in some key way, you can lose everything. You can be tempted to try to put the basket back together, and keep going. Eventually, though, you'll find yourself holding on to fragments of a broken vessel, seeing all of your efforts dashed to bits.
