Make Believe Martyrdom

A lot of time and energy get expended worrying about popular topics that amount to very little.  Issues of consequence get ignored.  The same ones who'll bathe in ashes and self-flagellate over something they'll forget tomorrow willfully ignore anything bearing long-term, negative consequences.
