In Vain

Solomon, it's said, aged and full of regret, penned the words, "All is vanity."  Men of a certain age can feel that.  Humans don't live to 700, anymore, but that age may be different for everyone.

When whatever that age may be finally comes around, comfort begins to outvote other motivations.  Entertainment becomes less involved.  Activities become less strenuous.  Fun requires less energy.

At that point, the list of important things begins to narrow.  Some things get dropped, accompanied by the question, "Why did I ever do that?"  Energy spent on those things seems to have been in vain.
