Ron Paul '08

Why I intend to vote for Dr. Ron Paul:

He's for freer ballot access laws. They have freer ballot access in the middle east than in the USA. Dr. Paul wants to change that and allow the torch of a free democracy to shine once again in the country that used to be it's home.

Ron Paul favors a return to the gold-standard. There's no need for Ben Bernanke and the floating dollar when the dollar is worth gold. It still surprises me how many people don't know our money is just printed paper, only worth what the Fed says it's worth. Even more surprising can be the ideas of the Keynesians who oppose a return to a precious metal standard. The only problem you have to deal with on a gold standard is deflation. That's when prices go DOWN somewhat quickly, and people don't buy as much. That's a problem I think we can live with in this over-consuming country. Beats the heck out of INFLATION any time. Ron Paul calls the result of the meddling Fed the 'inflation tax'. That's when prices go up because of inflation, and your dollar loses value.

Dr. Paul wants to abolish the Federal Reserve Bank and the Internal Revenue Service. Neither of these is constitutional. Of course this isn't something that would happen overnight, but I believe if anyone can do it, Ron Paul can.

He's pro-individual freedom. That means he thinks you should decide what's best for you, not the government. What you do is private, and your business, not the government's. He would end the 'drug war' that's costing billions of dollars and countless ruined lives every year. Drug addicts should not be locked up into crowded prisons where they do nothing but learn how to be violent criminals. Our military should NOT be in central american countries risking their lives to alter governments in a continuously failed attempt to stop drugs from entering our country.

Ron Paul is pro life. He was an OB/GYN for years, delivering over 4000 babies. Dr. Paul believes that life begins at conception, a belief that I share. He also favors overturning Roe v. Wade.

Dr. Paul favors Internet freedom, and opposes any violations of the 1st amendment, including any that might be imposed on the Internet.

He favors an immediate end to illegal immigration. He does not support amnesty programs that would reward border crashers. I know many people who have legally immigrated to the USA. They don't think it's fair, either.

Ron Paul opposes international entanglements with corrupt organizations such as the United Nations. These groups violate the USA's national sovereignty.

The next to last bullet I'll cover on here is education. Dr. Paul supports homeschooling efforts. Public education has failed us, and continues to get worse. Not a single post-elementary school in Dallas County could pass the required yearly progress evaluation this year. Tax dollars keep being dumped into a morass of bureaucratic dishevelment and legislative thievery called our public education system. Ron Paul favors privatization of education, but believes this should be decided by the states, not the federal government.

Last, but certainly not least, is the military. As Reagan put it, "Ron Paul is one of the outstanding leaders fighting for a stronger national defense. As a former Air Force officer, he knows well the needs of our armed forces, and he always puts them first. We need to keep him fighting for our country!" Dr. Paul vehemently supports the armed forces, including all the Soldiers, Marines, Airmen, and Sailors.

We never declared war on Iraq, but we invaded it and deposed it's leader. That violates our Constitution. Ron Paul voted against the order authorizing the invasion of Iraq back in 2002. However, he made a statement from the house floor that if US troops are to invade, we should declare war on the country into which we plan to invade, not grant the President the authority to do so. He would advocate an immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq.
