Too Fast

I've decided to not exceed the speed limit, anymore. No, I haven't gotten any speeding tickets recently. It's gas. I noticed a 5mpg difference on my motorcycle between 70mph and 80mph. At 70, I get over 45mpg; at 80, I barely crack 40mpg.

But that's not the only reason.

I've been very tired lately. I rush to get to work in the morning, speed home from work to go to school, hurry to get something to eat, speed to get home after school, make haste to get cleaned up, and rush off to bed. I feel like I'm busting my hump for nothing.

We're always trying to find a faster way to do stuff. It seems to make sense, at first. The faster you do something, the more time you have to relax, right? Well, maybe the first few times. After that, you're EXPECTED to go fast! Then, something else is dumped on you. Now, instead of having all that time to do the first task, you must accomplish 2 tasks in the same amount of time!

I heard this the other day, but I can't remember where:

A wealthy retired businessman was vacationing in the south pacific. Having an MBA, and being a successful businessman, the street vendors were very interesting to him. He approached one young man who was selling fruit, and got into a discussion about how to make his business more successful. He asked the vendor what he did with his spare time. "I go to the beach with my wife, relax and have a good time." The businessman told him how to invest time into going around, starting other fruit stands, building a supply chain, etc. "Then what?" said the vendor. The businessman then explained how to grow the business even further by spending more free time building his business, and moving to America to build the brand name. "Then what?" said the vendor.

"Then you can retire, go to the beach with your wife and have a good time."
