200,000 Miles, Right on Que

My truck rolled over 200,000 miles on my way home from work, yesterday.

So, I'm waiting to pick up my girlfriend from work, soakin' up the a/c in my truck, when suddenly I hear a pop... then I see steam... I quickly turned my truck off. I figured it had just run hot, sitting out there in the heat running my air conditioning. After a quick once over, I didn't see any obvious spot where the coolant overflowed from the cooling system. However, there was what looked like water and oil on the ground. I thought I was toast.

I got her mom to run me home, and got my dad to bring me back, to pull my truck home so I could work on it. Upon closer inspection, I found where there was a hole on the bottom of one of my hoses. We ran to the parts store and picked up a hose. I quickly put it on, and started for home. It ran hot again. My dad pulled me on home from there.

At home, I had a spare thermostat for my truck. I thought maybe that was the problem. After putting the new thermostat in, it still ran hot. Now, I'm thinking it's the water pump. A woman that works with my girlfriend suggested that when she saw my truck. Her water pump had gone out the week before. I hope she's right. I'll try it either tonight or tomorrow.

VN750 Tire Change Pics

Here are some of the pics from my tire change/spline greasing. As you can see in the bottom picture, there was quite a bit of rust in my drive shaft. I slapped a bunch of high-temp grease in there before reassembling it.

Saturn Rises?

Those of you who've read the blog, or the archives, remember my Saturn, or 'Say-turn', as I took to calling it.

After getting a letter from the Saturn dealership about a possible buyback, I put the battery charger on it yesterday evening when I got home from work. About 9pm I went out to take the charger off, and gave her a crank. After almost 2 years of complete dormancy, she fired up. I really wish the tranny hadn't gone out. That was a reliable car. And speedy, too.

Although smoke filled the area, and it ran rough, when I shifted into 'D', the car moved forward. It has a flat tire, but other than that, it's in fairly good shape for having been driven several hundred thousand miles.

Transportation

My windsheild wipers on the Chevy went out last week. They've been on the fritz since I bought the truck. I've heard there's a recall on 'em, but I haven't checked into it. I need to do that this week, before it rains, again.

The 'Stang is running, with a new alternator from Advance I popped in a couple of weekends ago. That same weekend, I was driving it to Walmart when it started running rough. I'm gonna replace the plugs and wires and see if that helps.

The bike needs a new rear tire, and an oil change. The Saturn still sits with a bum tranny. I have 4 vehicles, and none of them are in safe working order. Geesh.

On a better note, I had a nice, relaxing weekend. Slept in pretty late Saturday. Saturday night we went to see Moses play in Montgomery. That was fun. I got out and worked on the wipers Sunday morning. Couldn't get 'em to work. I think the circuit board is what's messed up. We sat around listening to music and watching TV for the rest of the day.
