Buying Hope

A buddy just told me the jackpot for some lottery is up to a billion bucks.  The odds of winning are statistically zero.  Still, millions will spend a little money to grab a few tickets.

What they're buying is hope.  There's no significant chance they'll win.  It's like voting.
