Playing the Odds

Actuarially speaking, ain't any of us getting out of this alive.  Once you get over that, life's all dessert.  Too bad that's so much easier said than done.

If you know the day you'll die, and that you'll never die before that, will it change the way you live?  Of course it will.  Statistically speaking, on the grand scale of time, you know when you're going to die: soon.  Why not live life?

Nobody wants to suffer.  It doesn't matter how long you live if your quality of life makes you wish you were dead.  Instead, we pacify ourselves with assurances of safety, well short of pain, but also far from where we'd like to be.
