Cleft

This reality is fairly robust, but has its weaknesses. Think about a zipper with a missing tooth. If the connections that were supposed to be made at critical junctions aren't made, the resulting rift could pull it completely apart.

Maybe a better metaphor would be the failure of a relay connecting a very high voltage. The components of the relay are relatively small compared to the items that are powered by the voltage it will connect. If one of the relay's components fail to operate when the smaller voltage is applied to the relay, nothing will be powered.

Maybe that's all nonsense. Today, I don't think so. Tomorrow may be a different reality.
