Debt-Free?

Is anyone debt-free? I don't have any loans or credit card payments, no payments for things bought 'on time'. Owing no money doesn't make me debt-free, though.

Bills come due every month. That's what you work to pay and still have a little left to save for building capital. Those don't keep you from being debt-free. They are a true necessity to keep you alive. Even if you live off the land, you have to invest time and sweat equity.

Property taxes, vehicle taxes, gas taxes, ad valorem, ad infinitum taxes... that's what keeps you from being debt free. These moral hazards keep people from achieving. Demotivational is an understatement.
