Getting Real

People don't want you to be passionate about anything. They want milquetoast acquiescence. Just a hint of idealism will often get you negative feedback, unless it happens to be something widely accepted and pop-culture related. Then, you get lauded.

I'm not a cynic; I'm a healthy skeptic. There is the possibility for good in everyone. It's healthy to be skeptical of motives, though. You'd have to be unbelievably naive to not be.

Those who claim to hate cynicism are usually the biggest cynics. They'll see it everywhere. They ironically label anything they find disagreeable with some synonym of cynicism.

When you've seen enough ill intent, it's tempting to be cynical. That's when you have to put on your 'get real' glasses. Realism will often lead you to a plausible form of idealism.
