Don't Necessarily Take My Advice

If there is something you really want to do, don't be dissuaded simply because someone says, "Don't do that." At least ask them, "Why not?" If there's a good reason, by all means, listen to them. If not, if the only reason is something like, "People won't like that," or something along those lines, and you still have a desire to do it, to explore it, or to do whatever you think will sate your curiosity or give you a sense of fulfilment, by all means DO IT.

There are so many opportunities lost, especially in your youth, when discouragement comes from some well-meaning person. There's usually some sort of fallacy or social manipulation behind the advice. Always vet your ideas, but vet your critics and their criticism, as well. It may save you decades of regret.
