Dumb & Dumber

Back in 2014 a study was published that showed human intelligence was in decline for the first time since IQs have been recorded. Earlier this year a study was published which attempted to blame the drop on poor nutrition and other environmental factors. We do know that socialization and groupthink are proven to reduce IQ.

Environmental factors may play a part, but it's probably more to do with the breeding out of independent thought and a preference for socialization. People already form opinions of others based largely on the opinions of friends and family. With the growth of instant communication, focus on popularity has grown and impact of intellect has waned.

Others have posited that intelligent women have fewer children now than 30 years ago, the last time IQs were recorded to increase. While this may be a fact, it is, at best, only half of the equation. Intelligent men aren't having kids, either. Intelligent people just aren't having kids.

What will be interesting to see is a study on WHY they aren't having kids. Is it by choice or an effect of social de-selection? Maybe it's just Darwinism disproving itself?
