Homeland Security

I've been told my company is having an I-9 audit by the Department of Homeland Security. I have no idea why. I was told I had to supply a copy of my driver's license and, get this, a copy of my social security card. If I hadn't supplied the copy of my SSC, I would have had to supply a copy of my birth certificate.

I looked it up on the internet. An I-9 audit is where an employer has to prove that all of their employees are citizens of the US, or here legally. They must present an I-9 form for each employee. At least that's how I interpreted it. I could be wrong.

I asked if I could use my passport if I didn't have the other forms. They didn't know. When I looked it up, I found out you can. As a matter of fact, a passport is preferred, as it proves both citizenship and eligibility to work. "Papers, please?"

I can understand the need to make sure an employee is a citizen. Illegal immigration is fast becoming a central issue in the economy. However, if people would realize that fractional reserve banking, based on a central bank, is the real problem, immigration would become a non-issue, as the economy corrects itself.

As long as our government tries to maintain a nanny-state there will always be a need for a Federal Reserve creating credit to pay for it. With illegals not paying into the system, yet receiving the benefits, they have to do something. I'm afraid it's not going to be enough to matter, though. Our nanny-state government is 9 trillion dollars in the hole.

9 trillion dollars... my girlfriend's mom sent me an email last week that explained how much a billion dollars was, using time as a frame of reference. I'll borrow from that line of thinking to indicate how much 9 trillion is: If you picked up a $100 bill every second, you would have had to start picking them up long before Jesus was born in order to have $9 trillion. If you started when Jesus was born, you'd only have around $6 trillion.

Making $20 an hour, you'd have to work 240 billion hours to make $9 trillion. That's 6 billion 40 hour work weeks. At that rate, it would take 115 million years to earn $9 trillion. I don't think even Captain Caveman has that kind of work ethic. Or lifespan. Busting illegals, however necessary, is never going to save enough money to make up that deficit.
