Polygraph for Prez

I found out recently that people who are hired as employees to work for the government are required to take lie detector tests. Why is it that the candidates for the lowest public service jobs are required to take lie detector tests and the elected officials aren't? To me, it should be the other way around!

Every President of these United States, since I've been alive, has been caught in a lie. From Nixon to now, each one of them has been busted. Could we have avoided electing these liars if we had given them a pointed lie detector test? It certainly couldn't have hurt.

That's what I think should happen. Make every person who declares his or herself a candidate for President take a polygraph test. Contract several reputable, non-partisan polygraph operators to administer the test. This is the most powerful position in the world. Should it be given to someone who can't even pass a simple lie detector test?
