Sophocleus on Alabama Education Funding

"There is no education funding "crisis" in Alabama. The overall budget is almost $16 billion, and the Education Trust Fund receives more than $7.7 billion (almost half) of that total. However, while Don Siegelman has been complaining about the reduction in the Education budget, he has also increased the rest of the budget by $386 million. Further, there is at least $200 million in pork spending in the Education budget. By reallocating $186 million from the rest of the budget, and by eliminating the $200 million in pork spending from the Education budget, we can reallocate $386 million to actual education spending today without raising taxes!"
