Hold Off on that Skynet Mess

What has AI done?  A bunch of tech legends issued a request, today, for AI 'researchers' to pause their work for a month.  This leads one to believe something untoward has occurred.

Isaac Asimov came up with 3 laws for robotic intelligence:

1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm

2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws. 

The AI programs available online have been known to lie, or give purposely erroneous information.  Political ideologies of the programmer are seen in output.  Just these widely circulated issues are enough to recognize the 3 laws Asimov suggested in his work are not even being considered.

Should AI learn to hack, which has been reported as well, critical systems would be vulnerable.  There's very little limiting what AI could learn, or the speed at which it could learn.  It's been reported that AI is used in developing new tech.  What's to stop it from developing it, lying about it, and using it for itself?

Maybe these are the reasons for putting a hold on AI research.  It's possible these alone are enough.  One hopes there's nothing more ominous.
