All TV Shows are Soaps

TV has changed so dramatically since I was a child.  Not just the fact that there are more than 3 channels... nor the myriad ways you can view it and sources that create what everyone now calls 'content', but the way it is written and the ways stories are told.  A fundamental shift has occurred in visual storytelling.

As a kid you have a short attention span and plots don't really mean anything.  You want to see your hero escape from whatever perilous misadventure befalls him or her.  There aren't really any other motives the writer needs to convey.  Yet, back then, they did.

I'm not saying the writing was good, it just had a starting point and an ending point.  It followed logical cause and event plotlines.  There were no continuing subplots.  All subplots ended at the conclusion of the episode.  Rarely, there were "To Be Continued..." episodes, but they were almost always resolved in the next story.

Modern TV storytelling more resembles older soap operas.  Soap operas were written to keep home-bound viewers tuning in every day, selling housewives and retired people all the products they could.  There was never any real resolution to the storyline of any episode.  Soaps followed storylines that resembled child's play in that almost every episode introduced new plots and ended very few.

What is hard to comprehend is why they do this, now.  Netflix doesn't need you to watch, it just needs you to subscribe.  TV programming can be 'Tivo'd'; you don't have to incentivize viewers.  Why, then are all the TV shows soap operas?

Verbal Vomit Volume Infinity

Yup, blogging is out-of-date.  I know.  It was popular a dozen years ago or so but not anymore.  Maybe that's better for me.

It's easier to put your thoughts out there when there's less chance of someone you know blowing it all out of proportion.  Not that I'm at all anonymous with it, it's just no one cares, anymore.

That's kind of depressing.  *Chuckle*

Writing is fun, even if it's not going to be read.  You can go anywhere, imagine any thing and put yourself and your would-be reader in all kinds of situations.  I almost prefer that it never be read so the story never ends or forms some sort of perceptible schema.

I've thought about making all of my blogs post-dated... so they'd post years and years from now.  That way I'd be much older, if alive, when they become public.  So few people read them, anymore, that it's almost moot to think about that, though.

When there was just a website to modify in all kinds of ways, there was a similar fulfillment.  That esoteric alternate reality the internet initially created was a blast.  Links to all sorts of strange, random sites and weird animations... Those were the days.  Sadly, viruses, streaming video and online gaming would make that kind of content very dated and unsafe, now.  Doing new and unusual things was fun, then.  Luckily, before it stopped being fun, there stopped being time for it, anyway.

There's no time for that.  Not then, not now.  There's not even time to finish this

Dont Shoot Me, Bro

The Youtube shooter was an islamic, female, animal rights activist.  That doesn't mean animal rights activists or muslims are violent, homocidal maniacs.  I'm not trying to demean animal rights activists, or muslims, by pointing this out, although I disagree with most them on many points.  She was, however, not the person EVERYONE ON EVERY MEDIA OUTLET EVERYWHERE was saying probably did it.

White, right-wing, disaffected male gun rights advocate with a grudge against Youtube for it's recent ridiculous policy change banning videos relating to guns...  That's who they were ALL saying did it.  That's pretty close to who they blame for everything.  They are ALWAYS WRONG.  It's NEVER that guy.  It's ALWAYS some SJW-type who thinks he or she is going to bring on the violent social change, al la Chuck Manson, by firing the first shot.

The guy who shot Gabby Giffords... he loved Che Guevera and supported Obama for President.  The guy who tried to kill the Congressmen and Senators at the annual baseball game... leftist nutjob who wanted to KILL THEM ALL.  The Batman shooter... drugged-out, pink-haired, leftist militant.  Sandy Hook shooter... drugged-out, fatherless snowflake rebelling against his semi-conservative mother.  The list goes on and on and on, and NO ONE WILL TALK ABOUT IT!?!?

I'm afraid some of these wack-a-doos, programmed by too much social media and encouraged by the anti-white, anti-gun, anti-conservative, anti-individualist slant on almost all forms of media, are going to decide to pop one in someone I love... or in me!  Do the idiots in so-called "news" or "journalism" or whatever psuedo-intellectual mantle they wear not realize they are CREATING the very behavior they attribute to the wrong people BECAUSE they attribute it to the wrong people?  I am terrified to the point of just wanting to hide, most of the time.

I won't, though.  I am a free individual.  If some nutjob kills me for being so, at least I'll die free.  I will not be some cowering slob, hiding in the shadows.
