Vu

Several times today, a twinge of déjà vu wormholed it's way across the folds of gray matter. Historical neurological messages indicated, "Yeah, I've been here before." Exactly the same feet fell in exactly the same paths they once followed.

Here and there, then became now. Instances of superimposed memory clicked into reality. Drawings of time wired up to expire got another shot at life.

Eyes can manufacture ghosts when things feel familiar. Seeing them can free them. Fierce ghosts from long thoughts on subjects best forgotten swell threateningly.

Right before they can attack, though, reminders that then isn't really now provide much needed relief. Opening a window to let the ghosts out, the present stretches a smile across pursed lips. Maybe they'll be back. Maybe they won't. Enjoy it while you can.
